Have you read the 2013 Indies Choice and E.B. White Award winners? Check out Sweet on Books for our reviews of each title. We highly recommend all three of these special books! Comment below and let us know what you think of them too.

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green won the Indies Choice Book Award for the Best Young Adult Book of 2013. It is, without a doubt, one of the best books I’ve read. In fact, it is one of the few books that I would put on my list to re-read. Here are some of my favorite lines:

“Some infinities are bigger than other infinities.”

“The world is not a wish-granting factory.”

“Oh, I wouldn’t mind, Hazel Grace. It would be a privilege to have my heart broken by you.”

“What a slut time is. She screws everybody.”

“Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book.”

The E.B. White Read-Aloud Award for a Middle Reader went to Wonder by R.J. Palacio. Wonder has won critical acclaim for the incredible message that it delivers.
It also inspired a national campaign to Choose Kind. Thousands have already pledged and are spreading the word that one act of kindness can make a difference.
Here are some great quotes from Wonder:

“Courage. Kindness. Friendship. Character. These are the qualities that define us as human beings, and propel us, on occasion, to greatness.”

“I think there should be a rule that everyone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their lives.”

“Mr. Browne’s September precept: When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind.”

The E.B. White Read-Aloud Award for a Picture Book
went to Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett. It also won a 2013 Caldecott Honor and the 2012 Boston Globe-Horn Book Award for Excellence in Picture Books.

Illustrator, Jon Klassen, is also the author of I Want My Hat Back and This is Not My Hat.
