Children’s Choice Book Awards

April 5th, 2011 by melissa g

According to the Children’s Book Council, “the Children’s Choice Book Awards program was created to provide young readers with an opportunity to voice their opinions about the books being written for them and to help develop a reading list that will motivate children to read more and cultivate a love of reading.”  Something we can all relate to, right?

The best part is that the Children’s Choice Book Awards is the only national children’s book award program where the winners are chosen by the children!

Voting began on March 14th and they’ve already received more than 200,000 votes. Apparently, every state across the country has been represented. Their goal is 500,000 votes.  Click the link in the sidebar so your child can cast his/her vote!

Kids can vote until April 29th.  Winners will be announced on May 2nd at an event hosted by Jarrett J. Krosoczka, the author of the Lunch Lady series, and results will be available online the following morning.  May 2nd also begins Children’s Book Week which is a national celebration that his been in existence since 1919.  Fun events like author and illustrator appearances, parties, and storytelling gatherings will take place throughout the week.  Click here for a list of events happening around the country.
