Let Rocket Teach Your Child to Read

May 17th, 2011 by melissa y.

Please take a look at this fabulous picture book about a little dog who is learning to read.  It just so happened my six year old son’s literacy skills were emerging right about the time I brought this darling book into the house.  And what do you know?  He was reading within days.  He carried this book wherever he went, he even slept with it, as if literacy skills can be acquired through osmosis.

Being the youngest of our three children, my little guy is always rushing to keep up with his siblings.  And literacy was no exception.  He asked me daily, “Mom!  Will I ever learn to read??”  And being the teacher that I am, my response was always, “Of course, in your own good time.”

Well, Rocket sure sped things along.  And even if learning to read is not on yours or your child’s agenda (and it shouldn’t be the only goal of reading with your child, but that is a whole other blog post:), How Rocket Learned to Read is also just a charming, lovely story that will entrance little ones.  Big thumbs up for Rocket!

There is also a well-reviewed IPad App, which you can view here.  It wasn’t until I was writing this post that I saw the App exists, but I see a download in my future!
