National Bullying Prevention Month – October, 2012

October 9th, 2012 by melissa y.

Did you know this month is National Bullying Prevention Month? And tomorrow, October 10th, is Unity Day?

Pacer’s National Bullying Prevention Center started this effort to end bullying in 2006 with a week long event.  This year it has grown into a month long effort with various events in cities across America.  Anyone can be involved, you just have to want to end bullying in your community.

A related effort is the movement to Choose Kind that has grown out of the spectacular book, Wonder, by R. J. Palacio.  If you haven’t heard of this book, please read our complete review at Sweet on Books and run out and purchase this book right now!  Be prepared to fall in love with Auggie, the main character who faces more challenges in one day than most of us do in a lifetime.

In honor of Auggie and all those kids out there who have been bullied, Choose Kind.  Go to Wonder’s website and sign the pledge to end bullying.  This month Random House will donate a dollar for every pledge to Pacer’s National Bullying Prevention Center.  So, please, go sign it, tell your friends to sign it and let’s end bullying together!

Finally, wear orange tomorrow to show your support for Unity Day!

Remember, the End of Bullying Begins With You!
