Exciting New Book News from Rick Riordan and James Patterson

May 31st, 2011 by melissa y.

We saw Rick Riordan and James Patterson at a great event held at Lincoln Center last Wednesday evening.  The two authors revealed some interesting information to an audience made up mostly of excited kid fans.

Originally the host was to be Al Rocker, but something suddenly came up?  Luckily for audience members Willie Geist was able to step in and moderate, and a fine job he did.

Here is a gratuitous shot of Rick Riordan signing copies of  Book Two in the Kane Chronicles at BEA – just cause:)  But the really exciting news we have to share is the new title has been announced for Book Two of The Heroes of Olympus series:  where Percy makes an appearance!

The Son of Neptune will be released on October 4, 2011

Here is a book trailer for the new title featuring the author talking about The Son of Neptune and explaining how this series, The Heroes of Olympus, compliments The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series….but be careful, the volume is really funky.  Riordan is hard to hear, but as soon as the video is over this really loud and annoying bird ad comes on, so watch the volume on your computer!

Riordan talked about all his books and told us he is working currently working on the third book in the Kane Chronicles.  He revealed that the title of the books is always the last thing he writes…interesting.

Patterson announced his newest book – Middle School, The Worst Years of My Life, and that it will be released on June 27, 2011. Patterson went on to talk about all the various book projects he is working on.  He also told the audience about his passion for children’s literacy and how he has dedicated himself to the cause after watching his young son struggle to find books to read.

Perhaps the most disappointing news for the eager fans in the audience was Patterson’s announcement that the book he is currently working on, Nevermore, will be the FINAL book in the Maximum Ride series:(
