Sweet Weekend Thoughts and Links

November 15th, 2013 by melissa y.

Will you take some time to read this weekend?  Will your kids read this weekend?  What will you all read?

I am going to read the new Sharon Creech,The Boy on the Porch.  Melissa G. is reading Jack Strong Takes a Stand by Tommy Greenwald.  We will let you know what we think of them next week.

I am also going to read The Invention of Hugo Cabret aloud to my 8 year old son.  I read it with his big brother and big sister, and it’s finally his turn.  It’s a great read-aloud if you are looking for something to share with your reader who is ready to tackle longer texts.  But make no mistake, there are a ton of illustrations!  It’s kind of like a grown up, gorgeous picture book.

Here are a few children’s book links from around the web.  Have a lovely weekend!

Did you know Suzanne Collins wrote a picture book?

Did you know the United States Post Office is issuing Harry Potter stamps?

Read an excerpt of Kate DiCamillo’s latest book, Flora & Ulysses.  We love anything DiCamillo does.

Did you know that Lionsgate is considering opening up a Hunger Games theme park?  Yikes, I  don’t even know what that would look like and I am not sure I want to know.

Did you ever think about throwing a Baby Shower Book Party?  Who needs more onesies!

Here are a couple of 2013 Best Children’s Books Lists:  from Publishers Weekly and from Hudson Booksellers.

And, finally, this is just plain awesome.
