William Joyce – Oscar Winner!

February 27th, 2012 by melissa y.

Last night at the 84th Academy Awards, children’s literature was front and center in Hollywood! Beyond the excitement of the blockbuster film Hugo and all the awards it brought home (and we are thrilled Hugo was so successful!), was a little movie that could.

William Joyce, of George Shrinks and Rolie Polie Olie fame, won an Oscar for his animated short film entitled The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore.  The film is about the enduring power of books.

Kudos to the Academy for spotlighting a film with this important message of the power of story in a world where electronics and media are crowding out good old-fashioned books.

You can view a trailer of the film at the Morrislessmore website.  You can also purchase the movie in it’s entirety (15 minutes) on iTunes. Enjoy!

Take a look at what is up next for William Joyce.
